Strawberry Picking

Amelia and I have gone strawberry picking twice this year. It was her first (and second) time going. Basically, she carried a box with a dozen berries in it and ate them and the strawberries she picked along the way. She was very good about not stepping on the plants and berries, but not so good at getting down to business picking berries. Both times were lots of fun and we ended up with 14 quarts, total. We’ve eaten lots of fresh fruit, plus I canned nine half pints of strawberry jam, frozen 3-4 quarts of whole berries and another five half pints of sliced berries in syrup. I think we’re all set in the strawberry department for a while. Too bad the season only lasts a couple of weeks!
