Bahamas cruise – Days 1 & 2

Artie and I went on our first cruise with Scott & Nicole at the end of April. We departed from Port Canaveral, FL on the Carnival Ecstasy. We had arrived in Florida the day before, so we had plenty of time to get to where we needed to be. We ended up getting to the ship early, and got on early enough to eat lunch and wait for our rooms to be ready right after lunch. Weather was warm and sunny, which I loved. We spent that first afternoon exploring the ship and getting our bearings. It seemed to take me at least a couple of days to figure out where we were in relation to everything else on board.

The next day, Sunday, we arrived in Key West, FL. We were an hour or so late getting into port, but we hadn’t scheduled anything to do, so no worries for us. We walked up Duval St., as well as some of the side streets. We made our way toward the Hemingway Home where we explored the house and grounds. Artie and I loved seeing the cats throughout the gardens and house, probably because it reminded us of home. After that, we casually made our way back toward the ship, stopping for drinks and also making a couple stops to get frozen Key Lime Pie on a stick, which a couple people had recommended. Yum. By late afternoon, we were hot and tired, so we headed back aboard.

One thing I had meant to do before leaving for our vacation was to map out each of our stops and pick a couple of places to explore. Unfortunately, being away from home made it hard to do my research and I didn’t have time to do it just before we left. I wish I had because it would’ve given us more direction when exploring each of the ports we visited. We made out pretty well, though. It certainly was nice to be out and free to explore. We really missed Amelia, especially near the end of our trip, but again, it was nice to not have to cater to her needs all day. A true vacation!
